Sul Ross State University launches global health partnership with Costa Rica center

Sul Ross State University’s College of Health Sciences has formalized a new international partnership through its Department of Public Health with the Inter-American Center for Global Health in San Vito de Coto Brus, Costa Rica.

The agreement establishes a collaborative framework aimed at expanding global health education, research and community engagement opportunities for Sul Ross students and faculty. The partnership outlines shared goals between the two institutions, including the development of study abroad programs, joint academic initiatives and experiential learning opportunities focused on global health.

The Inter-American Center for Global Health is known for immersive, field-based learning that connects students with real-world public health challenges. Through the partnership, Sul Ross students will have opportunities to travel abroad and engage directly with public health professionals, community leaders and interdisciplinary teams working at the intersection of health, sustainability and social impact.

The collaboration will support a range of initiatives, including study abroad and field-based learning experiences in Costa Rica, joint workshops and seminars, collaborative research and the exchange of academic resources and expertise between the institutions.

University officials said the partnership aligns closely with Sul Ross State University’s Master of Public Health program, which emphasizes practical experience and accelerated pathways for students preparing for careers in public health and related fields. By integrating international experiential learning into its offerings, the program continues to expand its reach and impact.
