La Casita is celebrating a major milestone after receiving an official gubernatorial recognition commemorating its 50th anniversary.
A proclamation issued by Greg Abbott honors the longtime Alpine restaurant for its decades of service, noting its role in preserving tradition, hospitality and community identity in West Texas. The document, dated April 1, 2026, highlights the restaurant’s founding in 1976 and its continued presence as a staple of the region’s dining landscape.
According to the proclamation, La Casita was established by Jesus and Lionel W. Ramos and has served generations of families, students, travelers and local residents. The recognition describes the restaurant as embodying the “Texas dream,” reflecting the contributions of small businesses that help define communities across the state.
The proclamation also acknowledges the restaurant’s longevity and consistency, citing its nearly five decades of operation and its reputation for welcoming guests while maintaining its founding values.
Now under the leadership of Tommy Ramos, the restaurant continues to serve as a cornerstone of Alpine’s cultural and culinary identity, according to the document.
The recognition concludes with best wishes from the governor and first lady, expressing confidence that La Casita’s legacy will continue for years to come.
