Sul Ross students inducted into Psi Chi honor society at April ceremony

Nine students at Sul Ross State University were inducted into Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, during a ceremony held April 10.

Psi Chi promotes excellence in scholarship and performance across all areas of psychology while supporting the advancement of the discipline through research, service and professional development. The organization emphasizes values including scholarly integrity, personal growth, service and social responsibility.

Membership offers students access to grants and scholarships, career preparation resources and a global network of more than 900,000 members focused on understanding and improving the human condition.

To qualify, students must be psychology majors or minors with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. They must also complete a minimum of nine semester credit hours in psychology coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in those courses.

Students inducted include Candes Ramon, Gysel Serna, Loren Loveless, Yamilet Martinez, Miguel Alejandro, Lawrence Gonzalez, Jennifer Ruiz and Emilio Salazar. Faculty members Alicia Trotman and Jay Downing participated in the ceremony, with Downing serving as chapter advisor.

University officials said the honor recognizes academic achievement and commitment to the field of psychology.
