A familiar face has returned to the Marfa Public Library, as former director Ester Sanchez is stepping in to help while current director Kim is on leave, library officials announced.
Sanchez began working at the library in March 1979 and became director in 1983. She retired in 2005 after more than 25 years of service. In 2013, she returned in a part-time role before retiring again in 2020.
Now, library staff say Sanchez has once again agreed to assist for the next few months, bringing decades of experience back to the community.
Sanchez is scheduled to be at the library on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons, where officials encourage visitors to stop by and make use of her research expertise.
Library staff said they are “over the moon” to welcome Sanchez back, calling her return a boost for both patrons and the institution.
