Cyclists from across Texas and beyond are expected to gather in the Davis Mountains this fall for the 49th annual Fort Davis Cyclefest, scheduled for Sept. 18-20.
The long-running event, known for its scenic routes through the “Texas Alps,” offers riders a mix of challenging climbs and sweeping views. Organizers describe the tour as a must-do for cycling enthusiasts, with multiple route options designed to accommodate varying skill levels.
The main ride takes place Saturday, Sept. 19, departing from Prude Ranch. Participants can choose from distances of 33, 54 or 76 miles. Activities begin earlier that morning with rider instructions at 7:45 a.m., followed by the official ride start at 8 a.m.
A picnic is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Prude Ranch patio, with the final rest stop and SAG support concluding at 3:30 p.m.
The weekend begins Friday, Sept. 18, with packet pickup from 5 to 9 p.m. at Prude Ranch.
On Sunday, Sept. 20, riders can take on the Hill Climb Challenge, a 6-mile ascent to the top of Mount Locke. Participants will gather at 8 a.m. near the solar panels, with the climb beginning at 9 a.m.
Organizers say the event continues to highlight the natural beauty of the Fort Davis area while promoting outdoor recreation and community engagement. Registration and additional information are available online.
