Casa Guame restaurant to open April 25 on East Holland Avenue in Alpine

A new Mexican restaurant previously reported as “in the works” on East Holland Avenue now has a name and opening date.

Casa Guame, located at 809 E. Holland Ave., is scheduled to hold its grand opening Saturday, April 25, according to owners Alexis Nuñez and Luis Mucharraz.

Big Bend Times first reported on the project earlier this month, when the space—formerly a game room in the 800 block of East Holland Avenue—was undergoing renovations but had not yet announced a name or opening timeline. The location shares a parking lot with the OYO Hotel Alpine TX.

Mucharraz, who is leading the project alongside Nuñez, has deep ties to the region. He grew up on a ranch between Manuel Benavides and Ojinaga before moving to Alpine as a child.

The restaurant’s name, Casa Guame, is inspired by the creosote plant—known locally as guame—whose distinct fragrance is especially noticeable after rainfall across the Chihuahuan Desert. The name reflects both regional identity and personal ties to the area.

While a full menu has not yet been publicly released, the restaurant will add another Mexican food option to Alpine’s growing dining scene.

The opening marks continued small business activity along East Holland Avenue, one of Alpine’s primary commercial corridors.
