Borderlands Research Institute announced that Dr. Maureen G. Frank has been named the 2026 Educator of the Year by the Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society, recognizing her leadership in conservation education and student mentorship.
Frank, an endowed professor and associate professor of conservation biology at Sul Ross State University, was honored for her work advancing applied conservation efforts across the region and guiding the next generation of wildlife professionals.
According to the institute, Frank’s teaching and research have played a key role in connecting academic study with real-world conservation challenges in West Texas and beyond.
The Educator of the Year award highlights individuals who demonstrate excellence in teaching, mentorship and contributions to the field of wildlife science.
