Jeff Davis County commissioners are scheduled to consider a plan to acquire a license plate reader system with an estimated cost of about $52,000 during their April 14 meeting.
The sheriff’s office proposes using approximately $40,000 in existing Stonegarden grant funds toward the purchase, with the remaining cost to be offset through the sale of three older Stonegarden vehicles. Proceeds from those vehicle sales must be used within the Stonegarden program.
According to the agenda, the license plate reader, or LPR, would be purchased under the current grant cycle, with the funding plan designed to cover the difference between available grant funds and the total quoted cost.
Commissioners are expected to discuss and take possible action on the item as part of the court’s general business.
