Alpine ISD partners with UT Permian Basin to offer direct admission, merit scholarships

Alpine Independent School District has partnered with University of Texas Permian Basin to provide direct admission opportunities for Alpine High School seniors, along with automatic consideration for merit-based scholarships.

District officials said representatives from UT Permian Basin recently met with members of the Class of 2026 to outline the admissions process and available financial support.

Under the partnership, students who apply to UT Permian Basin will be automatically considered for merit scholarships without submitting a separate application. Award tiers are based on grade point average and include:

Falcon Elite: $4,000 per year for students with a 3.9 GPA or higher, or a 4.0 unweighted GPA Falcon Excellence: $3,000 per year for students with a 3.70–3.89 GPA Falcon Achievement: $2,000 per year for students with a 3.35–3.69 GPA Falcon Recognition: $1,000 per year for students with a 3.25–3.34 GPA

Merit scholarships will be awarded through April 15, 2026. Students must register for new student orientation by June 1 to secure their awards.

District leaders said the initiative is aimed at expanding college access and affordability for Alpine High School graduates while strengthening connections between local students and higher education opportunities in the Permian Basin region.
