City of Alpine announces tire amnesty program through June

The City of Alpine is offering residents an opportunity to recycle used tires at no cost during its Tire Amnesty Days program running from April through June 2026.

The initiative allows residents to dispose of up to four tires per household per day, or until collection containers reach capacity. Tire drop-off is available Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

City officials said the program is limited to residential use and is designed to reduce illegal dumping while promoting environmental responsibility.

Only standard residential tires will be accepted. Tires from commercial or waste-generating businesses are not permitted, and oversized tires — including those from semi-tractors or farm equipment — will be refused. Tires must also be removed from rims prior to drop-off.

The program is coordinated by the City of Alpine Environmental Services Department and is supported through funding from the Rio Grande Council of Governments’ Municipal Solid Waste Grant Program.
