Drivers from across the country are set to converge on West Texas later this month for the 2026 Big Bend Open Road Race, a high-speed event stretching between Fort Stockton and Sanderson.
The annual race, scheduled for April 22–25, will take place along U.S. Highway 285 and feature vehicles competing in classes ranging from 100 to 200 mph. Organizers describe the event as one of the most challenging open road races in the world.
Activities begin Wednesday and Thursday with registration, technical inspections, practice runs and rookie school in Sanderson. Events continue Friday with additional registration and inspections, along with a car show and parade.
Race day is set for Saturday, followed by a race banquet to conclude the event.
The Big Bend Open Road Race is part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations and draws participants and spectators to the region each year, providing a boost to local tourism and businesses in both Fort Stockton and Sanderson.
Organizers are also seeking volunteers to assist with the event.
