Sul Ross State University is seeking applicants for a mental health counselor and crime prevention and outreach specialist position based on its Alpine campus, according to a recent job posting.
The position, housed within the university’s Counseling Center, offers a salary of $45,000 and will focus on providing therapeutic counseling, crisis intervention and mental health outreach services to students, including victims of crime.
Responsibilities include delivering individual and group counseling, managing cases, consulting with faculty and staff, and referring students to off-campus providers when needed. The role also involves organizing mental health awareness programs, workshops and presentations, as well as coordinating aspects of the university’s accessibility services.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or a related mental health field and have completed required practicum hours. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, leadership ability and experience working with diverse student populations.
Preferred qualifications include experience working with victims of crime and advanced skills in counseling and outreach.
