A Brewster County deputy arrested a driver Sunday night after a traffic stop south of Marathon led to the discovery of four undocumented individuals in the vehicle, according to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the deputy stopped a Hyundai Sonata and identified the driver as Jorge Lazaro Blanco Rodriguez, a Cuban national. During the stop, the deputy determined Rodriguez was transporting four individuals from Mexico.
Rodriguez was taken into custody and charged with smuggling of persons, officials said.
The four individuals were referred to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing and removal, according to the sheriff’s office.
