A weekend celebration of ranching culture and horsemanship is set for May 2–3 at the Ward County Arena in Monahans, featuring demonstrations, competitions and community events centered on West Texas livestock traditions.
The “Stockmen’s Gathering” will include a stockdog demonstration presented by Kyle Dillard, along with events such as “Buckaroo vs. Cowpuncher,” a 100-calf branding demonstration, and tree roping competitions offering prizes and cash payouts.
Organizers say the event will also feature mini horse and mule wagon races, a calf fry and chili cookoff, and a colt-starting faceoff paired with a horse sale scheduled for May 3. The horse sale portion is presented by Rocking F Auction Group.
The branding demonstration will be led by cowboys from Wyoming, Texas, highlighting traditional techniques used in working cattle.
The gathering aims to bring together ranchers, competitors and spectators for a showcase of working ranch skills, while also offering family-friendly entertainment and opportunities to experience ranching heritage firsthand.
Additional attractions include custom trophy saddles built by Austin Valimont, which will be awarded to top competitors.
The event is open to the public.
