Sul Ross State University will host a public science seminar today highlighting the ecology and management of one of West Texas’ most iconic gamebirds.
Dr. Ryan Luna, a leading quail researcher and professor of wildlife management, is scheduled to present “A Trans-Pecos Quail Story: History, Ecology and Management of Our Most Beloved Upland Gamebird” from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in WSB 201.
Luna serves as the Kelly R. Thompson Professor of Quail Research at the university’s Borderlands Research Institute and has spent years studying desert quail species in the Trans-Pecos region, including scaled and Montezuma quail.
The seminar is part of the university’s ongoing science seminar series and is free and open to the public. A mixer will follow the presentation at The Ritchey in downtown Alpine.
The event offers attendees an opportunity to learn about ongoing wildlife research and conservation efforts in the Chihuahuan Desert, a region where habitat conditions and environmental pressures continue to shape quail populations and management strategies.
