The Caboose Ice Cream Shop is set to reopen in Fort Davis under a new concept led by Sassafras Provisions, according to promotional materials and the company’s website.
An announcement for an April 1 launch declares “The Caboose Scoops Again!” signaling the return of the longtime ice cream stop at 1250-C State Street. The reopening appears to be operated by Sassafras Provisions, a Fort Davis-based mercantile that offers botanical and hemp-derived products alongside retail goods.
The new concept will continue serving ice cream while introducing additional offerings. Promotional materials describe “curated legal hemp products and ice cream,” with ice cream available for customers under 21 and optional add-ins for adults.
Sassafras Provisions markets itself as a modern mercantile rooted in the Trans-Pecos region, blending traditional general store elements with contemporary lifestyle products.
The Caboose Ice Cream Shop had previously been a familiar destination for residents and visitors in Fort Davis. Its reopening under new management marks a shift toward a hybrid model combining food service and retail.
