Visitors to Davis Mountains State Park will have an opportunity to learn about the hidden world beneath the Southwest during a special program on cave exploration Saturday afternoon.
The presentation, titled “Caving in the Southwest,” will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. March 14 at the park’s Interpretive Center. The program will feature local veteran spelunker Elbert Bassham, who will share insights into the mysteries, science and adventure of caves found across the region.
Bassham will discuss his experiences exploring underground environments and explain how caves form, what lives inside them and why they remain important natural resources in the Southwest.
The event is part of the educational programming offered by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to help visitors better understand the natural landscapes of West Texas.
Davis Mountains State Park regularly hosts interpretive talks and guided programs that highlight the geology, wildlife and history of the region.
The program is open to park visitors and will be held at the Interpretive Center inside the park.
