Big Bend Boating and Hiking launches UTV tours near Terlingua

Big Bend Boating and Hiking Co., a regional outfitter that offers guided river trips and hiking excursions, is expanding its operations with the addition of utility terrain vehicle tours in the Terlingua area near Big Bend National Park.

The company’s new guided UTV experiences will take visitors across desert terrain outside the national park boundary, where motorized off-road travel is permitted on certain routes and private lands. The tours are designed to provide access to remote landscapes, scenic viewpoints and historic features of the Chihuahuan Desert that are difficult to reach with standard passenger vehicles.

Big Bend Boating and Hiking Co. has operated in the region for years, offering canoe trips through Santa Elena Canyon, desert hikes, Terlingua ghost tours and excursions into Mexico. The addition of UTV tours reflects broader tourism trends in the Big Bend region, where visitor demand for outdoor recreation continues to grow and private operators increasingly offer guided experiences beyond park infrastructure.

Terlingua, a former mining community west of Big Bend National Park, has become a hub for adventure tourism, with businesses providing lodging, guiding services and outdoor recreation opportunities tied to the region’s desert environment.
