Science meets community at ‘Science on Tap’ event in Alpine

Local residents will have an opportunity to connect with scientists in an informal setting this week during a “Science on Tap” event hosted by the Borderlands Research Institute.

The gathering is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Ritchey, located at 102 E. Murphy Ave.

Organizers say the event is designed to make science more accessible by bringing researchers and community members together in a relaxed atmosphere.

“Join local researchers as they share stories from the natural sciences — what they study, why it matters, and how you can get involved,” the institute said in promotional materials. “No lectures, no jargon — just good science and cold drinks.”

The Borderlands Research Institute, based at Sul Ross State University, focuses on conservation, wildlife research and natural resource management across the Chihuahuan Desert region. Programs often involve collaboration with landowners, students and regional partners.

Events like Science on Tap aim to bridge the gap between academic research and everyday community life by encouraging conversation rather than formal presentations.

The event is open to the public, and attendees can come and go during the two-hour window.
