A joint emergency medical services task force made up of the City of Alpine and Brewster County held its third public town hall Monday evening at the Sul Ross State University University Center, continuing discussions about the future of 911 ambulance coverage in northern Brewster County.
Officials outlined several possible approaches to providing EMS, including continuing with a contracted provider, creating a city-county operated service, or forming an Emergency Services District that would require voter approval to establish a dedicated tax base.
Preliminary cost estimates for a locally operated service were also presented, with leaders emphasizing that no final decisions have been made and additional public input is being encouraged as the process moves forward.
Residents asked questions about funding options, tax impacts and long-term sustainability during the meeting’s public comment portion.
The task force is expected to continue evaluating options in upcoming meetings.
