McDonald Observatory is seeking undergraduate students for its 2026 summer internship program, offering a paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience in astronomy education and public outreach.
According to the announcement, selected interns will lead solar viewing programs, assist with guided tours and operate telescopes during the observatory’s popular star parties. Participants will also help support workshops and local science education initiatives.
The program is designed to help students strengthen public speaking skills, deepen their understanding of astronomy and physics and work alongside professional staff at one of the nation’s premier research observatories.
The internship is paid, and the application deadline is Feb. 15.
Located in the Davis Mountains near Fort Davis, Texas, McDonald Observatory is operated by the University of Texas and is known for its large research telescopes and public programs that draw visitors from across the region and beyond.
