The municipal government of Ojinaga has announced a new program offering subsidized farm chick packages aimed at strengthening household food security and supporting family economies.
Under the initiative, residents can purchase a “Paquete de Pollos de Granja” for 420 pesos. Each package includes 10 pullets and two roosters, all sexed and vaccinated with their first dose. Officials say the chicks are ideal for egg production and small-scale backyard farming.
The program is part of the city’s broader effort to help families reduce grocery costs and increase self-sufficiency through local food production. By encouraging home-based poultry raising, municipal leaders hope to promote sustainable practices and improve access to fresh eggs.
According to promotional materials, participants must provide a copy of their voter identification card (INE) to qualify. Registration and distribution are being coordinated through the Department of Rural Development at the Municipal Presidency.
City officials said the initiative is designed to benefit working families, seniors, and residents in rural and semi-rural areas who rely on small-scale agriculture for supplemental income and nutrition.
