The Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend will host a community 5K walk and run on April 25, 2026, to raise awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and show support for survivors.
The “Bringing Awareness & Support” 5K is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Briscoe Administrative Building. Participant sign-in will start at 8 a.m., with early arrivals encouraged to come at 7:30 a.m. to customize a Sexual Assault Awareness Month T-shirt.
The event is being organized in partnership with the counseling and accessibility office at Sul Ross State University. Organizers say the walk/run is designed to bring the community together to support survivors and promote education, prevention, and healing.
Participants of all ages and fitness levels are invited to take part by walking, running, or volunteering. The event emphasizes inclusivity and community involvement, encouraging residents to show their support in a visible and meaningful way.
Registration and payment are available through an online sign-up system accessed via QR code on promotional materials. Proceeds from the event will help support local advocacy, counseling, and emergency services provided by the Family Crisis Center throughout the Big Bend region.
Organizers say the 5K is not only a fundraiser but also an opportunity to spark important conversations and build a stronger network of support for survivors.
Community members are encouraged to register in advance and arrive early on race day to allow time for check-in and T-shirt customization.
