A man accused of committing sexual crimes was arrested in Manuel Benavides and later handed over to U.S. authorities in Presidio, according to regional reports.
The suspect was identified as Ramón García Escontrías, 69, a native of Manuel Benavides. Authorities said he had allegedly been a fugitive from justice for nearly two years and is facing accusations of sexually assaulting three minors within his family circle.
The arrest was carried out by the Municipal Public Security Department in Manuel Benavides. After being taken into custody, the suspect was transported to the international bridge in Presidio, where he was received by officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Reports indicate that the man was the subject of an active arrest warrant in the state of Texas. After entering Mexican territory, he was reported to authorities, leading to his location and capture. It was also reported that he had been sought by international and federal agencies, including Interpol and the DEA.
Following his transfer, U.S. authorities are expected to continue legal proceedings against him.
