Marfa Junior High Students Participate in Monologue Workshop with Marfa Live Arts

Junior high students in Marfa recently took part in a monologue workshop presented in partnership with Marfa Live Arts, bringing hands-on theater education into local classrooms.

The 2026 workshop was hosted at schools within Marfa Independent School District and focused on helping students develop performance, writing, and public-speaking skills through guided monologue work.

According to school officials, students worked closely with their classroom teacher, Ms. Gore, and members of the Marfa Live Arts team. Participants were encouraged to write original material, practice delivery, and explore creative expression in a supportive environment.

Special recognition was given to visiting teaching artist Rachel Tate, who worked directly with students throughout the program. Educators said her instruction helped build confidence and inspired many students to engage more fully with performance arts.

School staff reported that students responded enthusiastically to the workshop, taking part in writing exercises, group discussions, and practice sessions. Many students demonstrated noticeable growth in self-expression and stage presence over the course of the program.

Administrators and teachers expressed appreciation for the collaboration, noting that arts-based learning programs help strengthen communication skills and foster creativity among students.

The monologue workshop is part of ongoing efforts by Marfa Live Arts and local schools to expand access to arts education and bring professional teaching artists into rural classrooms.
