Brittany Escobedo cites banking experience, local roots in bid for county treasurer

At a candidate forum in Fort Davis, Brittany Escobedo outlined her background in banking, cash management and auditing as she made the case for her candidacy for Jeff Davis County treasurer.

Escobedo said she has lived in Fort Davis most of her life, aside from a six-year period spent in Midland, and emphasized her long-standing ties to the community.

“I’ve lived in Fort Davis all my life, except for six years,” Escobedo said. “I love Jeff Davis County, and I feel like it needs to be lifted up to its highest potential.”

During her time in Midland, Escobedo said she worked as a cashier at a travel center, where she was later asked to supervise other cashiers on her shift. In that role, she said she was responsible for balancing cash drawers and reconciling nightly reports.

“Most times I balanced, but sometimes I didn’t,” she said. “But I never left work without balancing, because it was my responsibility to make sure that was completed.”

After returning to Fort Davis, Escobedo said she applied for a position at a local bank in late 2019. She began as a receptionist and worked her way up to her current role as an assistant vice president, loan manager and customer service representative.

She described her current work as involving constant balancing, auditing and financial review, saying the experience has prepared her for the responsibilities of county treasurer.

“I’m constantly balancing, constantly auditing,” Escobedo said. “I feel like the time I’ve spent in banking has put me in a great position to run for county treasurer.”

If elected, Escobedo said she would prioritize working closely with auditors, identifying and correcting errors, and ensuring transparency for taxpayers.

“Taxpayers deserve to know what’s happening with their tax money,” she said, calling the treasurer’s role a serious responsibility.

Escobedo said she would also provide regular, balanced monthly financial reports to the commissioners court and focus on professionalism in the office.

In addition to her professional background, Escobedo briefly shared personal details, noting that she has one daughter, enjoys spending time outdoors with friends, and values her connection to the community.

“I think I’m up for the challenge,” she said.

The forum provided voters an opportunity to hear directly from candidates seeking countywide office ahead of the upcoming election.
