Human trafficking prevention training set for Feb. 5 in Marathon and Lajitas

A free human trafficking prevention training required for certain lodging businesses will be offered Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, with sessions scheduled in Marathon and Lajitas, according to organizers.

The training, presented by the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association, is being provided at no cost by the Brewster County Tourism Council for local lodging partners.

Texas law requires annual training for employees of commercial lodging establishments with more than 10 rooms, as well as direct employees of vacation rental companies that manage more than 10 rooms, organizers said.

The course is designed for hotel and lodging staff and lasts about one hour, covering ways to recognize potential trafficking activity, best practices to report suspected incidents, and steps to improve property safety while reducing legal, security and reputational risks. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Training schedule

Marathon: 9–10 a.m., Marathon Community Center Lajitas (Resort Theater): 1–2 p.m. English 3–4 p.m. Spanish

Attendees are asked to bring a mobile device, tablet or computer to complete the required questionnaire for certification.
