The Marathon Volunteer Fire Department recognized Brewster County Deputy Tyler Thomas this week with a Fire Department Commendation for his actions during a residential fire last fall.
According to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office, Marathon Fire Chief Wilson presented the commendation to Thomas for what the office described as a “selfless action to preserve life and property” during a residential fire on Oct. 21, 2025.
The recognition highlights cooperation between local emergency responders and law enforcement during high-risk incidents, where quick decisions can help limit injuries and reduce property damage.
The sheriff’s office shared a photo of the presentation and thanked those involved in the response.
