Municipal crews have begun long-awaited repaving work on Camargo Avenue, marking the start of a major roadway rehabilitation project that residents have requested for years.
The project was formally launched this week by Lucy Marrufo, who announced the start of resurfacing along the stretch of Camargo Avenue running from Libertad Street to 10th Street. The corridor had deteriorated significantly after years without major maintenance.
City officials say the work is expected to improve both traffic flow and safety for drivers and pedestrians who rely on the roadway daily. Residents in the area have long cited the condition of the street as a concern, particularly due to wear that developed over multiple administrations.
Municipal leaders described the project as part of a broader effort to address infrastructure backlogs and prioritize repairs in neighborhoods that have historically received limited investment. Officials said additional public works projects are expected to follow as the year progresses.
The repaving effort is being carried out by the municipal government as part of its 2026 public infrastructure agenda.
