Marfa ISD and Balmorhea ISD will host a community donation drive Friday, Jan. 9, to help cover funeral service expenses for Gabriel Tavarez Modesto, a Pre-K student at Fort Davis ISD.
The donation drive will take place during varsity basketball games at the Marfa Shorthorn Gym, with contributions accepted from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Organizers said all funds collected will go directly toward funeral-related costs for the child’s family.
School officials and organizers are encouraging residents from across the region to attend, give what they can, and show solidarity with the Fort Davis community during a time of loss.
