Longtime Brewster and Presidio County Author Announces Release of Second Novel

Longtime Brewster and Presidio County resident Stuart Bradley George has announced the release of his second novel, Cheshire Cat Moon on the High Frontier: A Petitioner’s Yearlong Saga, In Three Acts, a darkly funny, reflective work rooted deeply in the lived experience of the Big Bend region.

The novel draws inspiration from George’s decades living and working in Far West Texas, particularly experiences familiar to many who have spent time in the region over the last half century — including long, overnight shifts at the former High Frontier Treatment Ranch & School, a residential program for troubled youth that left an indelible mark on those who passed through it.

Described by early readers as wickedly funny, intelligent, and deeply authentic, Cheshire Cat Moon on the High Frontier blends humor, memory, and reflection into what George calls “an essential tale of forfeiture and redemption.”

“Living and working in the Big Bend Region for more than thirty years has deeply influenced my writing,” George said. “Especially with this one. I’m excited to finally have the chance to share this story with friends across the Trans-Pecos and the frontier borderlands.”

Early praise for the book has been enthusiastic, with readers calling it:

  • “A stark, profound, and sincerely funny book”
  • “Eloquent and deeply authentic”
  • “Enchanting and incandescent”
  • “A powerful work of memento mori — reminding us of life by acknowledging its transience”

One reviewer described George as “a force of nature — a one-man gang — with a gift for seeing and imparting hard-won wisdom.”
