Sul Ross State University’s women’s basketball team continued Lone Star Conference play Sunday afternoon, hosting No. 8-ranked West Texas A&M at the Pete P. Gallego Center. The visiting Buffs pulled away in the second half to secure a 93–63 victory.
West Texas A&M, now 13–1 overall and 5–0 in conference play, built steady momentum across all four quarters, outscoring Sul Ross in each period. The Buffs led 22–8 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 43–23 at halftime before closing out the game with a strong fourth-quarter push.
Sul Ross (1–10, 0–5 LSC) continued to compete throughout the contest and finished the game with its strongest offensive stretch in the final period, scoring 30 points against one of the top teams in the nation.
Sophiya Bustillos led the Lobos with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Victoria Aguayo added 13 points and delivered an all-around performance, recording nine rebounds, six assists, and five steals while playing all 40 minutes.
Sul Ross will return to the road next, traveling to Denton to face Texas Woman’s University on Thursday, January 15. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
