Holiday Traditions Bring Community Together at Black Bear Restaurant in Davis Mountains State Park

Laughter, conversation, and the clink of silverware filled the Black Bear Restaurant on Christmas Day as locals and visitors gathered for a holiday meal inside Davis Mountains State Park.

A video shared by Davis Mountains State Park shows diners waving to the camera from their tables, capturing a moment of simple joy as families, couples, and friends spent Christmas lunch together at the longtime park restaurant.

Park officials used the post to thank those who chose to spend part of their holiday at the Black Bear Restaurant, as well as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department staff and volunteers who worked on Christmas Day to make the meal possible.

“Thanks to all who spent their Christmas lunch with us today at the Black Bear Restaurant,” the park wrote. “Thanks to all the staff and volunteers who worked hard on this holiday so others could enjoy a special meal.”

Located at Indian Lodge, the Black Bear Restaurant has long served as a gathering place for park visitors, travelers, and locals alike. For some, the Christmas lunch is an annual tradition; for others, it’s a spontaneous stop while exploring the Davis Mountains during the holiday season.

The scene reflected a broader theme familiar to many in the Big Bend region: small moments of hospitality, carried out by people willing to work holidays so others can slow down and connect.
