Trans-Pecos residents complete fifth annual Boquillas Christmas Toy Run

Trans-Pecos residents led by Fort Stockton teacher Colette “Coco” Barragan completed the fifth annual Boquillas Christmas Toy Run on Dec. 22, continuing a cross-border holiday tradition that brings donated gifts to children in the Rio Grande village of Boquillas, Mexico.

Participants crossed the Rio Grande by boat carrying toys and supplies collected in advance of the event. The annual effort is organized to provide holiday gifts to children in Boquillas and relies on donations gathered from communities throughout Far West Texas.

Organizers said the toys distributed during the 2025 run represented contributions valued in the thousands of dollars, donated by hundreds of individuals and organizations. Big Bend Times participated as both a donor and a media outlet documenting the event.

The Boquillas Christmas Toy Run has become an annual tradition for volunteers from the Trans-Pecos region, bringing together residents on both sides of the border during the holiday season.
