The Davis Mountains Resort Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $25,000 equipment grant from the Texas Forest Service to support its operations in remote and rugged terrain.
According to the department, the grant funds were used to purchase new equipment, including an all-terrain vehicle approved under the Forest Service’s eligible equipment list. The newly acquired Kawasaki ATV is capable of carrying four to six people, features a lift kit and four-wheel drive, and is intended to assist with transporting firefighters and equipment to hard-to-reach locations.
The department currently operates two ATVs, one owned by Jeff Davis County and one owned by the department, both of which are two-seat vehicles. Officials said the larger-capacity ATV will expand response capabilities in the Davis Mountains Resort area.
The vehicle was delivered to the station by Adam with Texas Farm Store.
As part of the grant process, the department will submit required documentation to the Texas Forest Service, which will reimburse the purchase cost minus a 10 percent local match.
The Davis Mountains Resort VFD serves the resort community and surrounding areas, providing fire protection and emergency response services in a region known for challenging terrain and limited access.
