Sul Ross State University to Host 3rd Annual Scholarship Rodeo on Feb. 21 in Alpine

Sul Ross State University will host its 3rd Annual Scholarship Rodeo on Friday, Feb. 21, at the S.A.L.E. Arena in Alpine, bringing together student-athletes from across the region to compete for scholarship opportunities and a pathway into collegiate rodeo.

The event, sanctioned by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA), will feature a full slate of competitive events. Performance begins at 1 p.m., and entries are open to high school juniors and seniors as well as junior college transfers interested in continuing their rodeo careers at the collegiate level.

According to the Sul Ross Rodeo Team, the top two competitors in each event will earn scholarship support, offering participants a chance not only to compete but to secure financial assistance toward their education at Sul Ross State University.

Beyond the competition itself, prospective students are encouraged to arrive early to practice with the team, meet coaches and athletes, and tour the Sul Ross campus, gaining firsthand insight into the university’s rodeo program and team culture.

West Texas’ year-round training conditions and strong community support continue to make Alpine an attractive destination for rodeo athletes competing in the NIRA Lone Star Region, where Sul Ross has built a reputation as a respected and competitive program.
