At approximately 11:58 a.m. on Monday, November 3, Terlingua Fire & EMS (TFEMS) responded to a reported structure fire in The Solitario area.
Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved structure that was determined to be a total loss. A secondary structure to the north was exposed to the flames but had not yet ignited. Despite the rugged desert terrain, responders were able to reach the scene using Brewster County Sheriff’s Office Deputy B. Green’s patrol F-150, which was equipped with hand tools and water packs.
TFEMS crews quickly knocked down the primary fire and successfully protected the secondary building, saving it completely. Overhaul and debris-clearing operations followed to ensure the area was secure for the homeowner.
The homeowner was evaluated by on-scene EMS personnel and released. No civilian or responder injuries were reported. Approximately 100 gallons of water and 96 man-hours were used to fully extinguish the blaze and complete mop-up efforts.
Deputy Fire Chief J. Thomason, who also serves as the department’s Public Information Officer, expressed gratitude to BCSO Dispatch and Deputy Green for their continued support and assistance.
“Crews did an excellent job under challenging conditions,” Thomason said. “We’re thankful for the teamwork and quick coordination that prevented further loss.”
