AT&T Chairman and CEO John Stankey visited AST SpaceMobile’s facilities in Midland this week to see firsthand the company’s progress in developing its next-generation BlueBird satellites.
AST SpaceMobile is building the world’s first space-based cellular broadband network for mobile phones, aiming to connect users directly to satellites without the need for ground towers.
AT&T is one of AST SpaceMobile’s key strategic partners, and the two companies have already achieved historic milestones in space-based cellular connectivity. The partnership is focused on bridging critical gaps in global coverage — particularly in remote and underserved regions.
“We are committed to connecting the unconnected and transforming the mobile landscape,” AST SpaceMobile said in a statement. “And we are just getting started.”
