Excitement filled the air as Bass Pro Shops officially opened its doors in Odessa, marking a major milestone for outdoor enthusiasts and the local economy. The Grand Opening and Evening for Conservation celebration brought together community leaders, including Councilmen Eddie Mitchell, Gilbert Vasquez, and Steve Thompson, to commemorate the occasion.
“It brought jobs here — that’s one of the main things we want to do: help create opportunities so that people can go to work,” said District 1 Councilman Eddie Mitchell.
The massive new 110,000-square-foot store, the largest Bass Pro Shops in West Texas, is located along State Highway 191 between Yukon Road and Mission Boulevard, just steps from the Cinergy Family Entertainment Center.
District 2 Councilman Steve Thompson joked, “We probably have the most boats in the state of Texas for a town of this size with no lake. People here are very adamant hunters, fishermen, and everything else, so it’s really exciting!”
Councilman Gilbert Vasquez emphasized the store’s regional appeal: “It’s going to attract a lot of people from outside Odessa to come shop — and leave their money here. I’m happy to have Bass Pro Shops in our city.”
With new jobs, tourism, and economic growth ahead, Bass Pro Shops’ arrival is another win for Odessa — a city that continues to grow, thrive, and celebrate the great outdoors, West Texas style.
