Fire crews from Alpine and Marathon battled a large blaze early Saturday morning that heavily damaged a cluster of businesses on the west side of town.
According to Marathon Volunteer Fire Department, mutual aid was requested by Alpine Volunteer Fire Department around 3:55 a.m. on October 18, after a structure fire broke out with flames showing. The complex included Ramos Insurance, R & D Electronics, Bullshirtz, Vance’s Tire Shop, and Alpine Motorsports.
Marathon firefighters responded with two personnel and one apparatus to assist Alpine units already on scene. “AVFD had made a solid knockdown on the fire and were moving into mop-up hot spots,” MVFD reported, adding that crews worked together to extinguish remaining flames and clear debris.
Responders remained on site for several hours, with the scene cleared by 7:10 a.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
