The Sul Ross State University Music Program, in collaboration with Guitar in the Big Bend, will present an evening of classical music featuring the Krishnan-Baek Duo on Wednesday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theater of the Francois Fine Arts Building. Admission is free and open to the public.
The duo, pianist Jae-Eun Baek and guitarist Stephen Krishnan, are known for their innovative blend of original arrangements and classical works. Their performances highlight the distinct voices of piano and guitar while merging them into a sound that is both timeless and contemporary.
In addition to the evening concert, Baek and Krishnan will host a public masterclass at 3 p.m. the same day, also in the Studio Theater. This interactive session offers students and community members a rare opportunity to learn directly from two accomplished artists.
Krishnan, an Austin-based guitarist and educator, has been featured by the Austin Chamber Music Center, Austin Classical Guitar, Conspirare, and The Contemporary Austin. He also performed with the Austin Guitar Quartet on The Singing Guitar, a 2021 Grammy-nominated recording. He currently directs guitar studies at Orpheus Academy of Music, leads the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Sinfonia, and serves as adjunct faculty at Huston-Tillotson University.
Baek, originally from Seoul, South Korea, is a pianist and educator with extensive performance experience in solo and chamber music. She earned her Bachelor of Music from Yonsei University, her master’s degree from Indiana University, and pursued doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin. She currently teaches at Austin Community College and serves as Pre-College Piano Director at Orpheus Academy of Music.
