The annual Big Bend Mountain Ramble drew more than 350 runners to Kokernot Park on Saturday, Sept. 13, as Alpine Cross Country welcomed 24 middle school and high school teams for a day of competition under favorable cloudy skies.
The Alpine Lady Bucks dominated the varsity girls’ race, winning the team championship by nearly 70 points. Freshman Hallie Wood led the team with a 3rd place finish, followed by Garrett (5th), Dominguez (6th), Saunders (8th), and Hernandez (13th) — all earning medals in a field of 42 runners. In the JV girls’ division, freshmen Haily Adams and Athena Villanueva placed 5th and 6th, with Ramos, Marta, and Rodriguez contributing to a 2nd place team finish.
On the boys’ side, Alpine did not field full varsity or JV teams but posted several individual highlights. Prieto (17th) edged out teammate Edwards (18th) with a sprint finish, while Perkins placed 21st. In the JV division, Young (13th) and Renteria (17th) recorded their best times of the year.
Alpine Middle School runners also shined. Holguin earned 3rd place individually, while Brito, Edwards, and Prieto all medaled in the top 20. Sutherland rounded out the boys’ top five, helping the team place 3rd overall. For the girls, Muratori (8th) and Munoz (10th) led the way.
Alpine Cross Country will travel to Marfa for its next meet on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
