Star Party in the Borderlands Offers Unforgettable Views of Texas’ Dark Skies

The Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve, home to some of the darkest skies in Texas, will host a Star Party in the Borderlands at 8 p.m. at the West Contrabando Trailhead.

The event offers participants a chance to gaze at celestial bodies and planets through telescopes alongside amateur astronomers. Attendees are encouraged to bring red lights to preserve night vision, weather-appropriate clothing, water, snacks, and even their own telescopes and chairs for comfort.

The program is weather dependent, and visitors can call during office hours (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) to check for updates.

Cost:

Free with the purchase of a day-use entrance fee $5.00 for adults Children under 12 are free TSPP pass holders may waive the entrance fee

Passes can be obtained at the Fort Leaton State Historic Site or the Barton Warnock Visitor Center.
