The Presidio County Historical Commission invites the public to attend the unveiling of a new historical marker commemorating the Native Peoples of La Junta de los Rios. The event will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 7 PM, along West FM 170, northwest of US 67.
The marker recognizes the Indigenous communities who lived and thrived for centuries at the confluence of the Rio Grande and Rio Conchos—an area historically known as La Junta de los Rios. Long before modern settlements, this region served as a hub of trade, agriculture, and cultural exchange among Native peoples.
Following the unveiling ceremony, attendees are invited to enjoy drinks and cookies in fellowship with local community members and history enthusiasts.
The new marker reflects Presidio County’s ongoing efforts to preserve and elevate the stories of all who shaped the region. Community members, educators, students, and visitors are encouraged to attend and take part in honoring this vital piece of West Texas heritage.
