The Marathon Public Library has unveiled a first look at its brand-new Adult Reading Room, part of the major expansion currently underway. Staff have begun filling shelves in the dedicated space, which will soon offer adult patrons a quiet area to read, work, and relax — away from the bustle of the children’s section.
The Adult Reading Room is part of a transformative project that is expanding the library’s footprint from 800 to 3,500 square feet. The project was made possible by the successful completion of the Heart of Marathon capital campaign, which raised over $1 million thanks to a lead gift from the Prentice Farrar Brown and Alline Ford Brown Foundation.
With construction already in progress, the expanded library will include new areas for children, teens, and adults, as well as community gathering spaces and expanded collections. The Adult Reading Room is the first newly completed section, offering a glimpse into what’s to come.
