For the first time ever, a free veterinary clinic is coming to Terlingua, bringing no-cost spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, and microchips to area residents. The clinic, hosted in partnership by Alpine Humane Society and Operation Kindness, will take place August 30–31 at the Brewster County Community Center.
The clinic will provide essential surgical and wellness services completely free of charge. Heartworm tests and flea/tick prevention products will be available at a small cost.
A Powerful Partnership
Operation Kindness, a respected North Texas nonprofit, is sending a team of 13 people, including four veterinarians, and will be providing all necessary surgical and medical equipment. They will be joined by four to five team members from Alpine and one experienced volunteer from Sanderson.
Help Needed to Reach the Finish Line
Despite strong community support and generous early donations, additional help is needed to make this life-saving clinic a success.
Current needs include:
Funding: $7,000 has already been raised, but an additional $14,000 is required to fully cover clinic costs. Thanks to High Sierra Bar and Grill for their fundraising support! Lodging: Housing is still needed for about 11 team members, especially private lodging for the four veterinarians. Meals: One breakfast has been pledged, but we still need another breakfast and two lunches for 18–20 people. Transportation: Help transporting a large number of kennels and supplies from Alpine to Terlingua and back is needed. (One offer of assistance has been received so far.) Supplies: Donations of ice, bottled water, and cold drinks. Promotion: Volunteers to distribute flyers and help spread the word in the community.
