The Alpine Humane Society is caring for a young kitten named Joaquina, who was found injured on Highway 67 near Fort Stockton. A Good Samaritan picked her up after spotting her on the roadside and brought her to safety.
According to the Alpine Humane Society, Joaquina suffered multiple injuries believed to be the result of falling from a car engine or being thrown from a moving vehicle. She arrived with deep lacerations on her head, an injury near one eye, part of her lip missing, a likely tooth loss, and signs of a healing rectal prolapse.
Despite her condition, staff describe Joaquina as “the sweetest, most cooperative patient.” She is reportedly eating well and starting to play again.
Due to space limitations at the Cattery, Joaquina is currently being housed at the home of the Humane Society’s director. The organization is asking for donations to help cover her care and the needs of other animals.
