Jeff Davis County officials have not responded to inquiries about why thousands of dollars’ worth of medical supplies appeared to be left outside the new Box Clinic for days.
Three pallets of supplies — including sterile bandages and other items intended to stock the clinic — were observed in front of the building. One pallet’s shrinkwrap was partially removed and boxes inside had been opened. The condition suggested the shipment may have been outside for more than a day.
The Big Bend Times sent questions to county officials by email and followed up with a phone call. No response was received.
Concerns have been raised about the sterility, security and proper handling of the supplies. Standard business practices typically require incoming shipments to be checked in, accounted for and stored promptly to prevent damage, theft or contamination.
As of publication, Jeff Davis County has not said why the supplies were left outside, who is responsible for receiving and securing them, or what steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
