Sul Ross State University to Renovate Building Into $9.5 Million Performing Arts Center

A $9.5 million renovation project will transform an existing building at Sul Ross State University into a new performing arts center, according to state construction filings.

The project, located at 101 E. Sul Ross Ave. in Alpine, will convert a pre-engineered metal building into a facility featuring a black box theater, music rehearsal room, costume shop, dressing rooms, and support spaces. The renovated building will total 5,000 square feet.

Work is scheduled to begin Aug. 1, 2025, with completion expected by Oct. 1, 2026. The Texas State University System is listed as the project owner, with David Creek as the contact. The project involves public funds and public land.

Dallas-based BRW Architects is the design firm, and Marcela Abadi Rhoads, a registered accessibility specialist, filed the project registration.
