After a multi-year hiatus, the beloved Gospel Brunch is making a one-day return at the new French Co. Grocer location in Marathon, Texas. The Gospel Brunch Reunion Show featuring the Old Rugged Choir will take place Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Originally launched in May 2021, Gospel Brunch was the brainchild of musician John Ray, who pitched the idea to then-store operator Sam. For nearly two years, the event brought together a rotating group of Tri-County musicians on the second Sunday of each month for live gospel music, food, and community.
The reunion promises a nostalgic revival of the tradition, with live music, homestyle Mexican brunch, draft beer, and plenty of mimosas. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, come ready to sing and dance, and enjoy a celebratory atmosphere at one of Marathon’s favorite gathering spots.
Organizers are still on the lookout for a face painter to join the festivities. The event is free and open to the public.
